We worked successfully over the last couple of years to help get 26 people off of Alabama‘s death row. These are people who were sensed to die, even though their juries returned to verdict of life in prison without parole. Judges overrode the jury through a process that is now been declared unconstitutional. Alabama banned this practice of judicial overrides in 2017. Yet we still have 26 people who are set to die based on this unconstitutional and now unlawful practice. Recently, the governor commuted the sentences of Rocky Myers and Sonny Burton. We still have 26 remaining so I continue to work on this endeavor.
With regard to another matter, we have been successful in causing the release of a man William Patrick Smith who spent over 20 years in prison for allegedly stealing two dollars. That’s why I said two $2.00 dollars
Fortunately the DA was receptive and the judge allowed him to be released on time served.
